Athletics teams at LMU are known as the Railsplitters, a reference to LMU’s humble early profession. Their campus stands against the backdrop of the stunning Cumberland Gap Mountains. The Railsplitters are lead by head coach Justin Haywood

Sporturf Tech Tip #8 Adhesive Uses and Guidance

Adhesive is an important part of the synthetic turf install process.

When using an adhesive to install synthetic turf, take a minute and read the adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations and specifications.  Doing this beforehand will help better prepare you for the upcoming installation.  Information such as:

  • any prep needed for the adhesive (if any).
  • Recommended tools (trowel size, rollers).
  • amount of coverage per container.
  • cure time.
  • Limitations due to temperature (hot or cold).
  • Limitations due to moisture/humidity.

Having and knowing this information before you get to the jobsite can prove invaluable and save you time, product and money.

This information would prove usefull for projects involving custom on deck circles , logos, halos, and home plate stance mats. Custom on deck circles allow you to show off your team colors or logo while reducing your field maintenance at the same time. With synthetic turf, your field will always look professional, and your hitters will consistently warm up in the right areas.

Stance mats have become one of the most widely used practice aids for baseball teams. They are perfect for outdoor batting practice and for use in batting cages.

One of the best ways to inspire your team, impress your supporters, and earn respect from your competition is to outfit your field with a custom halo from Sporturf.

Home plate stance mats have tufted in white lines and a home plate. They are available in 6’ X 12’ and come in green or clay.

Adhesive is important in any and all applications including but not limited to:

• Full Athletic Fields
• Sideline Turf
• Halos
• On Deck Circles
• Stance Mats
• Custom Logos
• Playgrounds
• Putting Greens
• Landscape

Eisenhower Park Joins Forces with KYA and Sporturf

Sporturf Regional Account Manager worked with Sporturf dealer KYA to install three large-scale fields including baseball and softball. The project was located in Arcadia, California in 2019 and featured Sporturf’s GameChanger product.

As you can see in the aerial shot included in this post, the field lines intersect on two of the fields creating and incredible design and highlight our AquaFab’s talent in design and turf prefabrication. Just about anything that you can dream up our team can make happen.

Eisenhower desired a high-quality field with maximum life expectancy so they chose KYA and Sporturf. The end goal was to improve playability, and upgrade the aesthetics and safety of the fields.

Our partnership with KYA Group is just as impressive. KYA is a solutions driven company specializing in sports fields, athletic courts, resilient surfacing, classroom beautification and sustainable plantscapes supported by project management, design, general contracting and maintenance services.

About GameChanger

Sporturf™ GameChanger is very similar to natural grass; our advanced yarn provides resilience and strength at the same time, while maintaining a brilliant appearance. The fiber has exceptional split resistance compared to conventional turf fibers. This increases the performance in sliding, ball roll, ball bounce and durability making our product one of the best on the market today.

As always, if you have any questions please contact your Regional Account Manager regarding any new or past products. We have the team, we have the turf and we have skills to make your next project the best one yet.

Do You Know About G-Max?

G-Max is important to consider when installing an athletic surface for athletes.

A field’s level of shock absorbency is tested by using a unit of measurement called the g-max, where one “g” represents a single unit of gravity. The peak acceleration reached upon impact of two objects, such a football player and the synthetic turf surface, is the maximum number of g’s a field is able to absorb.

A field with a higher g-max level loses its ability to absorb the force — and places more impact on the athlete during a collision, while a surface with a lower g-max absorbs more force, lessening the impact to the athlete. Using ASTM F1936 test method, g-max readings shall not exceed 200 at each test point. With proper maintenance, a synthetic turf field should have a g-max of well below 200. The g-max guideline in the STC’s Guidelines for Synthetic Turf Performance is “below 165” for the life of the synthetic turf field.
