Sporturf Tech Tip #3 Mold and Fungus With Turf

Fungus, Mold Spots or Moss

The following instructions are provided to assist you if you ever need help with the removal of fungus, mold spots or moss from your turf. Like many other products that are outdoors and come into contact with the elements, your turf may at some point develop bacterial growth. If that does happen the following tips will help eliminate the issue.

  1. Use TurfStat™ PRO, a synthetic turf disinfectant is proven to kill germs on non-porous surfaces such as plastic (polystyrene, polypropylene), vinyl, fiberglass, non-porous rubber and washable synthetic fibers, at a rate of 1 part concentrate to 11 parts water and spray the area fully.
  2. Do NOT use high pressure water spray with stream force in excess of 2500 PSI as this can severely damage the turf.
  3. TurfStat™ PRO is an EPA registered disinfectant, MR. Clean and Vital Oxide Perform as needed but has not been EPA approved.
  4. Simple Green is another product that can be used as long as it is the bleach free formula.

As always with all of our tech tips if you need more clarification or additional assistance please contact your Regional Account Manager before working on your next project.

Below are some tips on  daily turf usage:

1. Footwear should be restricted to ½” molded cleats
2. Stance areas for baseball/softball, Lacrosse and soccer goal mouths face abnormal
wear patterns and must be monitored daily.(See section II)
3. Band Practices may cause abnormal wear and the field must be monitored for rubber
loss in high trac areas.
4. Pets or animals should not be allowed on artificial turf areas.
5. Non authorized vehicles should not be allowed on turf. Light machinery such as
Gators, tractors and golf carts are permissible with turf tires only.
6. No food, chewing gum, sunflower seeds and/or tobacco products on playing surface.
7. Daily cleaning of surface should be hand-picked. Vacuums with dual motors and leaf
blowers recommended.
8. Turf grooming and cleaning must be done by trained sta and authorized equipment
9. Steps must be taken to prevent dirt/debris from collecting onto surface from nearby
trees and parking lot trash.

UAB Upgrades Facility With Sporturf

Product: Fast Grass AT740 5mm

Dealer/Installer: RS Sport Surfaces

Location: University of Alabama-Birmingham  Birmingham, AL

Date: Fall 2019

Sporturf dealer RS Sport Surfaces worked with the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) to install Sporturf’s Fast Grass AT740 in their indoor training area. The turf included custom logo work, hash marks and five different colors. UAB needed a strong and durable product that could withstand daily training sessions that included not only college athletes but also extensive equipment use.

About Fast Grass AT740

This non-rubber infilled turf has all the advantages of previous generations and perform even higher in wear and resistance tests. The blend of nylon and polyethylene is an almost perfect 50/50 combination. This gives you the true ball roll of a traditional nylon field, with the softness of the new generation rubber-filled turf. No rubber infill makes maintenance easier and means there will be no messy crumb rubber dragged throughout your space. These systems can also be portable with added 4” or 8” Velcro.

About RS Sport Surfaces

RS Sports Surfaces specializes in providing high-quality, safe surfaces for every type of athlete. Their floors work in concert with the athletes’ bodies to improve training performance and help reduce injuries. From high-level collegiate weight rooms and recreation centers to basic home gyms, they equip all types of facilities all over the southeastern US with Ecore Athletic flooring. 2019 CrossFit Games

As the CrossFit games are quickly approaching, we wanted to remind everyone that now six-time CrossFit Games competitor and Sporturf athlete Scott Panchik has qualified again and will be competing!

Panchik, a five-time individual CrossFit Games veteran, has qualified for every CrossFit Games since 2012.  He took back-to-back fourth-place finishes in 2012 and 2013, missing the podium by just one place each year. Victor of the 2015 and 2016 Central Regionals, Panchik is known for his mental fortitude, always believing he can win while remaining unruffled by setbacks. A collegiate running back, Panchik owns CrossFit Mentality in Mentor, Ohio.

In 2018, Panchik partnered with Sporturf to add Combat Turf to his gym.  The idea was to create a truly multifunctional space that would allow all Crossfit type movements to be performed indoors.  Combat Turf truly created an all-purpose functional fitness space.

The CrossFit Games are the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth™. They are world-renowned as a grueling test for the toughest athletes on Earth as well as a thrilling experience for spectators. Since its launch in 2007, the CrossFit Games have become “one of the fastest growing sports in America,” according to Forbes.

The Games were created to fill a void—no other true test of fitness like this has existed. From Ironman triathlons to the NFL, all other athletic events neglected to accurately test fitness. Even decathlons, while testing a relatively wide range of abilities, missed vital components of physical fitness.

Make no mistake—the CrossFit Games are designed to test, not train, fitness. The goal is to find the fittest athletes, not to produce an easily replicable workout program.

We at Sporturf would like to wish Scott the best of luck next week!

Sporturf Joins Forces with MASL Utica

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and Sporturf takes that fact very seriously. So much so that the Major Arena Soccer League decided to collaborate with Sporturf to outfit their turf fields with Sporturf synthetic turf.  In 2018, Sporturf and Sporturf International provided the turf for the Major League Arena Soccer team the Utica Comets!

The Comets chose to outfit their field in a striking blue turf that was designed for their unique needs as a Major Arena Soccer League.

When asked about how well the field performs and the benefits Bo Jelovac, UCFC Captain had this to say, “The color of the turf is great. Having a unique playing surface reminds visiting players that this is our home field. The panels lay very flat allowing for no breaks in play due to surface.”

ABOUT THE MAJOR ARENA SOCCER LEAGUE

The Major Arena Soccer League represents the highest level of professional arena soccer in the world. The MASL features teams across North America, with teams playing coast-to-coast in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
