Synthetic Turf Helps Grant a Wish

Recently Sporturf™ dealer Midwest Synthetic Turf and BEX Construction Services worked together on a Make a Wish request that involved synthetic turf. The turf is installed in a 24’ x 40’ outside play area for a child with special needs.  According to Tim Williams of BEX Construction, “We chose to use Fast Grass Sporturf™ over compacted granular fill so she could ride her tricycle on a flat surface and not be impacted much by wet weather as would be the case on a normal grass yard. The turf will also not wear a path like grass would be turned into mud.  We also wanted to reduce injury from falls which is why we did not choose a hard surface like concrete or asphalt.”

The short pile height was chosen over longer material to allow the child’s tricycle to be ridden with normal effort.  The area will also be used for activities including most ball play and child type play activities.  The project included a fence to protect the little girl as the yard does slope some.  Finally, the surface will also be used for a bench swing and basketball goal, a true multi-use area that is perfect for synthetic turf.

This amazing project was made possible by the generosity of several companies, Midwest Synthetic Turf included.  Both materials and labor were donated to various degrees and the project received great attention, responsiveness, flexibility and commitments from all who participated.  Without these people, the play area could not have been built due to cost constraints.
