Do You Know About G-Max?

G-Max is important to consider when installing an athletic surface for athletes.

A field’s level of shock absorbency is tested by using a unit of measurement called the g-max, where one “g” represents a single unit of gravity. The peak acceleration reached upon impact of two objects, such a football player and the synthetic turf surface, is the maximum number of g’s a field is able to absorb.

A field with a higher g-max level loses its ability to absorb the force — and places more impact on the athlete during a collision, while a surface with a lower g-max absorbs more force, lessening the impact to the athlete. Using ASTM F1936 test method, g-max readings shall not exceed 200 at each test point. With proper maintenance, a synthetic turf field should have a g-max of well below 200. The g-max guideline in the STC’s Guidelines for Synthetic Turf Performance is “below 165” for the life of the synthetic turf field.

Check Out Wilbur D. Mills University Studies High School’s New Sporturf Field!

In 2016, the Pulaski County Special Schools District hired the team of Byrne and Jones Construction and Midwest Synthetic Turf Professionals via a purchasing co-op program to construct multiple synthetic turf fields for the district.  One of these fields was for Wilbur D. Peru State is a Powerhouse

The football field at Peru State College was first installed in 2013 as a part of a $9 million stadium upgrade project. After researching several turf options, the school chose Sporturf™ Powerhouse 44oz, with 2.25” pile height. Even after a few years of constant use by the Peru State football team the turf looks phenomenal. So if you were concerned that a football team would tear up your brand new field in the first season then you are sorely mistaken. You can clearly see that our Powerhouse product can withstand whatever a team can throw at it.

Designed with durability in mind, PowerHouse also provides increased comfort and durability thanks to the extensive research and development that went into it.  PowerHouse truly is a workhorse and will withstand the rigors of wear and tear for many years.

Snoop Dogg Gets Game Ready at the College Football Hall of Fame

Back in January the College Football Hall of Fame had a visitor with his own right to fame. Snoop Dogg, American singer-songwriter and actor visited Atlanta’s College Football Hall of Fame for an exclusive screening of his TV series, “Snoop & Son: A Dad’s Dream.” The series focuses on Snoop’s relationship with his son Cordell Broadus while Cordell decides which college he will play football for.

While there, Snoop spent a few hours touring the 94,256 square foot facility, featuring historic memorabilia, interactive multimedia displays and a 45 yard replica football field that was provided exclusively by Sporturf™. After Snoop spent some time throwing passes and kicking field goals he had this to say, “This is the greatest thing ever…Number one in my book!”
