Hot Spring Chooses Sporturf

Sometimes we get a chance to get a little bit more information about an install and the motivation behind it. We spoke with our dealer Craig Shonk of Midwest Synthetic Turf Professionals about his recent install in Hot Springs to learn more about the project and get some feedback from the customers.

The project was as follows:

  • Product Installed-PowerHouse 46oz
  • Size of Installation-81,000 SF
  • Location-Hot Springs, AR
  • Difficulties/obstacles overcome-15” of rain during project work
  • Why did the turf need to be replaced?-The former field was seven years old and falling apart.

When asked why they chose to go with Sporturf, Hot Springs School District Deputy Superintendent Lloyd D. Jackson said, “After visiting a few schools in our area that had Sporturf (fields), we were convinced that this was the quality of product we wanted to go with.  We also were impressed with the professionalism and commitment of the Midwest team in past projects. “

Furthermore, Jackson told us what they hoped to accomplish, “We wanted to first class field to accompany our World Class approach to educating our students.  Our board decided that they wanted to showcase the best in all areas of our schools–academically and athletically.”

When asked about feedback from the community Jackson finished with this statement, “The community has been very complimentary of the work that has been done on our football field.  It is a source of pride for our district.”

We at Sporturf strive to provide quality service with quality products to each one of our customers, no matter the size of the project. With that in mind, please consider Sporturf for your synthetic turf sports needs.

Beloved Sporturf™ Dealer, Bill Miller Passes Away

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a great friend and dealer, Bill Miller. Bill passed away Monday night at the age of 68 after an incredible two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.

Sporturf™ was lucky enough to call Bill a dealer since 2006. Over the years he built everything from full size baseball fields to countless infields and batting facilities. Bill always enjoyed helping programs enhance their existing facilities so the athletes could showcase their skills.

Prior to his introduction to the world of synthetic turf, Bill had already built an amazing career as a baseball coach. He amassed a staggering 1,144 victories over a 39-year career that included 6 state titles making him the winningest coach in Kentucky high school baseball history.

“The PRP Family has lost a true legend,” PRP principal Kim Salyer said in a news release. He was a father figure to hundreds of players, coaches and members of our community. He taught all of us how to work hard and never quit. In short, Coach Miller made each of us a better person. His influence and life will never be forgotten.”

A PRP grad, Miller attended the University of Alabama, where he played one season of football for Bear Bryant before lettering in baseball the rest of his college career. He returned to his high school alma mater as an assistant baseball and football coach after graduating and was named the program’s second head coach in 1980, succeeding Bill Waddell, Nick’s grandfather.

Miller is survived by his wife, Vickie, and two children, son Matt and daughter Megan, who is in her 15th season as the head softball coach at PRP.

Bill led an amazing life and was a true pleasure to speak to and be around. He will definitely be missed by the Sporturf™ family.

SCG Fields Installs Multipurpose Soccer and Football Field in North Miami

Recently SCG Fields, LLC worked with North Miami Athletics to install a Sporturf™ multipurpose soccer and football field in Miami, Florida.  Officials from North Miami Athletics worked the SCG and Sporturf team to choose a color for the coaches’ boxes that would very closely match the newly resurfaced track.

The turf system that was selected consisted of Sporturf™ GameChanger paired with an alternative infill called Envirofill from US Greentech and a ProPlay shock pad from Schmitz Foam Products.  The entire project was purchased through our partnership with NJPA.

SCG Fields, LLC is a sports field specialty construction contractor that handles all phases of natural and synthetic turf jobs for professional, collegiate, and high school facilities, from excavation and sub base through installation and maintenance. They are one of the nation’s most trusted sources for superior quality construction of highly engineered natural grass and synthetic turf sports fields.  Sporturf is proud to team with top quality partners across North America for both indoor and outdoor projects.

Sporturf™ GameChanger is very similar to natural grass; our advanced yarn provides resilience and strength at the same time, while maintaining a brilliant appearance. The fiber has exceptional split resistance compared to conventional turf fibers. This increases the performance in sliding, ball roll, ball bounce and durability making our product one of the best on the market today.

Grants Pass All-Sports Park Soccer Field

Sporturf™ dealer Dale Collett of Synthetic Turf Consulting installed this soccer field for Grants Pass High School in Grants Pass, OR in 2017.  Dale and his crew utilized over 100,000 square feet of PowerHouse synthetic turf to complete this project, including prefabricated lines.

In the United States, Soccer is one of the most rapidly growing sports and around the world it is by far the most popular sport surpassing basketball and football. This is where the need for synthetic turf becomes paramount. Natural grass fields simply cannot withstand the constant play.

Sporturf has the ability to provide a FIFA quality product and our quality standards translate to a winning surface. We bring a complete solution to you and your team through comprehensive evaluation and understanding your needs.

PowerHouse, the turf installed on the field, is one of our most advanced system designs that provides high resilience and increased comfort and safety. The series is made up of some of the most proven and durable fibers in the world. PowerHouse truly is a workhorse and will withstand the rigors of wear and tear for many years.

Do you know about the Synthetic Turf Council?

According to the Synthetic Turf Council (STC), “Currently, there are between 12,000 and 13,000 synthetic turf sports fields in the U.S., with approximately 1,200 – 1,500 new installations each year.” Therefore, education about the benefits of synthetic turf is a crucial topic. Many people are just not aware of how much it can benefit their lives.

Synthetic turf is an excellent, durable solution for a multitude of sports, such as football, field hockey, baseball, tennis, lacrosse and rugby. In fact, about half of all NFL teams currently play or practice on synthetic turf.

Now more than ever, millions of students around the world have new opportunities to practice and play on a sports field that is always game ready. This innovation in synthetic turf has helped teams go from worst to first, intensified school pride and brought together entire communities. When students and children have a safe, stable place to play, they thrive and grow into happy, healthy adults.
