Sansom Family Foundation Install in Knoxville TN

This install for the Sansom Family Foundation comes to us from Baseline Sports Construction, LLC. Baseline began surfacing tennis courts in 1982 as Empire Recreational Surfaces, and grew into a full service recreational contracting company providing a wide-range of services such as tennis court construction, running track construction, indoor sports facility construction, and synthetic turf construction.

Baseline serves the southeastern region and is a licensed contractor in the states of Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Sansom Sports Complex
The complex is located in Knoxville, TN.  The new construction of two full size synthetic turf fields and one smaller pavilion synthetic field consisted of a 12-acre site for use by inner city ministry. The owners chose to install Sporturf™ GameChanger on two out of the three fields on site.
GameChanger is very similar to natural grass; our advanced yarn provides resilience and strength at the same time, while maintaining a brilliant appearance. The fiber has exceptional split resistance compared to conventional turf fibers. This increases the performance in sliding, ball roll, ball bounce and durability making our product one of the best on the market today.

Synthetic Turf Helps Grant a Wish

Recently Sporturf™ dealer Midwest Synthetic Turf and BEX Construction Services worked together on a Make a Wish request that involved synthetic turf. The turf is installed in a 24’ x 40’ outside play area for a child with special needs.  According to Tim Williams of BEX Construction, “We chose to use Fast Grass Sporturf™ over compacted granular fill so she could ride her tricycle on a flat surface and not be impacted much by wet weather as would be the case on a normal grass yard. The turf will also not wear a path like grass would be turned into mud.  We also wanted to reduce injury from falls which is why we did not choose a hard surface like concrete or asphalt.”

The short pile height was chosen over longer material to allow the child’s tricycle to be ridden with normal effort.  The area will also be used for activities including most ball play and child type play activities.  The project included a fence to protect the little girl as the yard does slope some.  Finally, the surface will also be used for a bench swing and basketball goal, a true multi-use area that is perfect for synthetic turf.

This amazing project was made possible by the generosity of several companies, Midwest Synthetic Turf included.  Both materials and labor were donated to various degrees and the project received great attention, responsiveness, flexibility and commitments from all who participated.  Without these people, the play area could not have been built due to cost constraints.

George and June Sports Complex Chooses True Grass

This recent install of 26,500 square feet baseball infield complete with batting cages is the fourth and final project to be installed at the George and June Schaaf Sports Complex in the past few years by All Synthetic Group-Midwest.

All of the fields installed have been for Chicago Christian High School and Trinity Christian College (boys and girls teams) and are also used by the local summer league softball and baseball teams as well.

For this project the schools chose, Sporturf™ True Grass, which is a premium athletic product that has been tried and tested in the toughest conditions. This product also features the longest lasting fiber available, which makes it ideal for indoor and outdoor athletic fields.

Sod, fencing, netting, synthetic turf cages and a new synthetic mound will be installed in the weeks to come.

This site is only one of many ongoing projects that ASG and J&L Strawn Sports Construction have in progress that utilize old waste sites that have met their dormancy requirements.  What better way to breathe new life into a property than as a youth sports facility that will bring more people, jobs and revenue to these sometime undesirable areas of a town or city and make it a destination spot their community.

West Plains High School Heals with Sporturf

On April 26 West Plains High School received severe hail damage.  On April 29 they experienced the worst flood for this area in past 500 years. According to Greg Simpkins, Athletic Director for West Plains High School, “All of our athletic fields were flood damaged.  We had to cancel all of our home games for the remainder of the spring 2017 spring sports season.”

West Plains High School, home of the Zizzers, contracted with Craig Shonk of Midwest Synthetic Turf Professionals to get their field cleaned up and installed in record time.

Suffice it to say Craig Shonk had his work cut out for him and Sporturf™ had to produce a top-notch field with an incredibly tight deadline.

On June 19, Craig and his crew began work on replacing and repairing Zizzer Stadium’s track and turf field.

The turf field was ready by their first home varsity football game on Friday, 8/18/17 and track resurfacing was completed by the second home varsity football game on Friday, 9/1/17.  The Zizzers did not miss a home varsity football game thanks to Craig and Sporturf.

North Little Rock Middle School Chooses Sporturf

Midwest Synthetic Turf Professionals was hired as part of a large construction project on the campus of North Little Rock Middle School. Part of the project converted a courtyard area to a “zero maintenance” area that would be used for sports and events. In addition to the FastGrass AT740 play field in the courtyard, the school added several concrete basketball courts to round out the project.

Sporturf’s AT740 is a non-rubber infilled turf has all the advantages of previous generations and perform even higher in wear and resistance tests. The blend of nylon and polyethylene is an almost perfect 50/50 combination. This gives you the true ball roll of a traditional synthetic turf field, with the softness of the new generation rubber-filled turf. No rubber infill makes maintenance easier. These systems can also be portable with added 4” or 8” Velcro

Humphrey Elementary School Chose Fresh Grass

The Humphrey Elementary School playground is the 2nd project the district has contracted Craig Shonk and Midwest Synthetic Turf Professionals to build. For Humphrey, MWSTP converted an old mulch chip playground to a stone base with a drain tile. The turf the school chose was a combination of Fresh Grass PL929 for the body of the playground and inserts of Sporturf 36 in the high wear areas such as underneath slides and swings.

Shonk started Midwest Synthetic Turf Professionals LLC as a way to pair together ISO 9001 synthetic turf manufacturing with an ASBA Certified Field Builder for synthetic turf fields to better serve clients throughout the Midwest.

Sporturf Fresh Grass is a signature Playground product with a thatch system which provides added body, reducing the amount of infill needed. The four color blend of this surface provides a truly authentic look and feel that resembles a natural lawn. This product can also be used for landscapes, pet areas, fringes, and much more. This product can also be installed indoors or outdoors on concrete or a compacted aggregate base.
