Worldwide Turf Canada: Lewis-McChord Air Force Base

If you have been monitoring our posts you’ve seen updates on the Worldwide Turf Canada project at Lewis-McChord Air Force Base.

We have documented this project from the first truck load of stone to the manufacturing of the turf through the rolling and seaming of the carpet. The project is now complete and the turf has been in use for a few weeks now. The difference from start to finish is striking and Sporturf™ was thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful project that will benefit the men and women of our armed forces and their families.

Sporturf™ worked closely with Worldwide and Lewis-McChord in order to custom design high performance turf systems that surpassed the requirements for the multipurpose, baseball and softball fields.  For the multipurpose fields, a monofilament system was created to provide long term ball roll control and natural aesthetics and a high durability slit film was chosen for the baseball and softball fields.

When it comes to sports fields, Sporturf™ understands the demands and specific needs of athletes, owners and fans alike. Our fields provide a consistent surface that you can count on to deliver the best experience available on the market today. The turf we manufacture utilizes the latest technology and is made of the highest quality products obtainable. Features like heat reduction, ball bounce, ball roll and even light reflection are all advancements that are addressed in our product designs.

Our main goal at Sporturf™ is making sure your selection process is made easy. Sporturf™ offers consultation at our factory to help you determine what surface makes the most sense for you and your team. We are continuously improving on technologies and take the process of education very serious. Let us be part of your process today.

Sportscapes Construction Installs MT50 for Waverly High

Recently Sportscapes Construction installed 100,000 square feet of Sporturf™ MT50 for Waverly High School in Ohio.  The crew removed the tired natural grass surface and replaced it with a layered stone base which included a brand new concrete curb on the inside of the track surface.  Once the stone base and curb were in place it was time for the MT50 to be installed.  MT50 is a combination of high performance monofilament face yarn and a texturized thatch that traps and minimizes infill movement. Dan Hodson of Sportscapes Construction stated, “They (Waverly) really enjoyed the look and feel of the monofilament fiber and thatch layer from the beginning.”

As the base layer was being finalized, a ceremony was held to explain the project and show the students and staff items that were set to go in a time capsule that would be buried under the field. Those items included signed jerseys, shirts and a photo from the senior groups who use the field for football, soccer, cheerleading and marching band, as well as a shirt with all of the signatures from Waverly’s graduating class of 2015.

During the assembly Hodson had an opportunity to address the students saying, “Congratulations to you seniors. You all paved the way for this today. Enjoy this. I build fields all over the country,” said Hodson. “To see this community pull together and pull something like this off is a testament to everyone in this room. You may not know how difficult of a project this is. It is extremely difficult. You all are blessed.”  He went on to challenge the athletes by saying, “For every football field we have built, the offense has scored on the opening drive. No pressure. Waynesville that we built last year scored on their opening drive to make it 19 in a row,” said Hodson. “For girls’ soccer, for eight years in a row, the girls’ soccer team has won their opening game. We will be watching to make sure it is number nine. For eight years in a row, the band has won a regional competition. All this is to say, I am super excited to be a part of the project. You are going to have a ball on this field. I hope to come back here next year and celebrate a lot of victories here.”

When asked how the product looked after the project was complete Hodson said, “I have never seen a better looking field, the colors on the field just pop! It looks sharp!” We couldn’t agree more, the field is beautiful!

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are a professional Indoor football team that has been active in Bethlehem, PA since 2010.

The Steelhawks play in the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) and their typical season runs from spring to early summer. This season, the Steelhawks had the opportunity to test out their brand new Fast Grass AT740 field supplied by Sporturf. Team officials chose a striking black field color that included a logo of the team sponsor, Embassy Bank.  Executive V.P. and General Manager of the team, Mike Clark said, “Our fans absolutely love it! It’s state-of-the-art and we highly recommend Sporturf™ to anyone looking to purchase a field!”

To the inexperienced eye it probably does not look like it takes very much to install synthetic turf. We are here to tell you that is simply not true. Take a look at the project progression and we think you will be amazed at the amount of work that goes into a field.

The Futbol Factory Has Fast Grass!

The Futbol Factory, LLC installed Sporturf ™ Fast Grass AT755E in their indoor training facility. They knew they needed a quality product that could withstand the abuse that futbol (aka soccer) players put it through. The Futbol Factory chose Sporturf ™ due to the well know quality, fair pricing and exceptional customer service.

When asked about how the turf is holding up, Juan Carlos of The Futbol Factory said, “The turf is great, we and the players love it.” According to Juan, some of the most common comments on the field are, “That it looks beautiful, that is great that it has no rubber and is comfortable to play on it.”
The benefits of Sporturf™ AT755E include high resistance to wear and the fact that messy infill is not required. The almost perfect 50/50 blend of nylon and polyethylene provides a true ball roll generally only found in high pile rubber infilled turf. Also, no rubber means less maintenance.

Keep in mind, all Fast Grass systems can be outfitted with Velcro seams for ease of portability.

Peru State is a Powerhouse

The football field at Peru State College was first installed in 2013 as a part of a $9 million stadium upgrade project. After researching several turf options, the school chose Sporturf™ Powerhouse 44oz, with 2.25” pile height. Even after a few years of constant use by the Peru State football team the turf looks phenomenal. So if you were concerned that a football team would tear up your brand new field in the first season then you are sorely mistaken. You can clearly see that our Powerhouse product can withstand whatever a team can throw at it.

Designed with durability in mind, PowerHouse also provides increased comfort and durability thanks to the extensive research and development that went into it.  PowerHouse truly is a workhorse and will withstand the rigors of wear and tear for many years.

Worldwide Turf Canada Begins Preparations at McChord Air Force Base

The beginning stages of the installation process are underway at McChord Air Force Base. Steve Halbert and the team at Worldwide Turf (Canada) Inc. have begun building the drainage layer, spreading the stone and creating the aggregate base that is required under the fields. Friday they will be laying the center line panel on the first field.

Incredible aerial shot of the beginning work on the field installations.

The aggregate drainage base is the first and arguably the most important step in the installation process. The turf will lay directly on the compacted aggregate base and allow water permeability, which is a great advantage synthetic turf has over natural grass…No rainouts, EVER!

Once the compacted aggregate base is completed, the installation of the turf will begin! Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project for Sporturf™ and Worldwide Turf (Canada) Inc.

SporTurf Sponsors Mexican National Team

Sporturf™ had the honor of being the official sponsor of the Mexican National Team in the World Minifootball Arena Soccer World Cup this past week; hosted by the Chicago Mustangs, members of the Major Arena Soccer League (www.MASLSoccer.com), at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL.

Rene Ortiz, who has coached the Mexican National team since 2002, had this to say about artificial fields, “Discomfort is when turf is thin like 1/2 inch or so … when it is properly laid, stretched and attached to the ground, the field is excellent to play.”

The final game of the World Cup came down to Mexico vs. the US who were both undefeated entering the match. USNAST beat Mexico 5-3 despite a valiant effort, to take home the WMF World Cup. Eduardo Velez had this to say about the US win, “Their goalie was unbelievable, he was making incredible saves!” Despite coming up short in the finals, Mexico won all of their previous matches in the tournament and Sporturf™ is certainly proud to have had the honor to sponsor such a talented team.

Silverback™ Quiet Strength Made to Last for McChord Air Force Base

The McChord Air Force Base chose turf that was built to withstand the strength of the air Force, they chose a turf made to last. When they decided to use Sporturf™, they chose a company whose values mirror their own. Sporturf™ is the epitome of integrity, service and quality; easily demonstrated by our superior Silverback™ technology.

IMG_8654

Silverback™ is the result of our specialty Polyurethane backing recipe. Silverback™ coating saturates the primary backing of the synthetic turf and effectively locks the turf blades in place. While most polyurethane backings are a coating simply scraped over the primary backing, Silverback™ actually penetrates into the tuft, surrounding every stitch locking the fibers into the primary backing. This process produces tuft lock well above the industry standard.

IMG_8652

The components that make up Silverback™ are simple. It is, at its core, a heat activated polyurethane with zero vegetable based polyols, forming the best polyurethane backing available in today’s market. When you have Silverback™ as your backing you know you have the quiet strength required by today’s consumers, regardless of the application.
